Feeling a Bit Dotty
Just checking in, because it has been quite a while since I felt any motivation for blogging.
And it's been a strange few weeks, to say the least!
While I have been fairly productive (although the level varies from day to day), I have not felt the urge to go through photos or post to this blog.
But I decided to jump back in.
Do I feel confident that posting consistently will resume sometime soon? Probably not. But I am going to try to get back in the swing of things.
I find that posting to Instagram is much easier for me these days. But it's the lazy way out, and I do like to have a record of my finished projects here.
When this began, I knew I had enough project materials to keep me busy for quite some time, so being forced to stay home did not seem like a horrible imposition since I had plenty to occupy my time. What I didn't expect was missing the routine of going to work. And even when I am not missing the office, I know that Valentino is. He definitely misses that extra interaction (and the extra treats from co-workers!).
In the mean time, I am getting a lot of unfinished and abandoned projects completed, going on a brisk daily walk by myself to clear my head, and spending lots of time with my pup.
I hope everyone is doing well. Stay healthy! And happy sewing, knitting, reading, lounging on the couch, or whatever it is you are up to these days.

Are you working from home at all? Not sure what it is that you do for a living (I’m curious, what do you do?), but not having work/income right now has been a stark awakening for me regarding how much money I spend on fabric. I really do seem to have fallen into the trap of working to support my sewing habit.
ReplyDeleteI shudder to think how much I have invested in the materials sitting in my sewing room! But at least I can keep myself busy while stuck at home.
DeleteI work in a small office. I have been going in a couple of days a week, mostly when no one else is around to keep up with mail and do anything I can to help my bosses. It's a weird world at the moment, that's for sure.
Very nice dress😍
ReplyDelete..your red dress looks very good, too
ReplyDeleteI love polka dots and they look splendid on you!
ReplyDeleteI like your shoes.
ReplyDeleteI love these shoes. First I got them in red, and once I realized how comfy they were, I had to order the black ones!
DeleteFortitude is your long suit, and dots become you (I can't be the only one who missed you).
ReplyDeleteDog permitted at the office, AND you don't make them coffee - what have you got on those people???
Tino is the office mascot!
DeleteGlad to see you post again! I've missed them. And I love polka dots! Nice to see you work in knits... comfy clothes that still look good would be a nice way of pretending things are "normal". And thanks for the trick of the strip of interfacing down the zipper - I don't put zippers in stretchy knits, but have to use them in ponte's and sometimes my hand-picked zippers still ripple. (Zippers and button holes are where I always use couture techniques) Maybe that'll help.
ReplyDeleteBut I understand the feeling unmotivated to blog - I'm currently not interested in sewing and crafting. I haven't sewn in 5 weeks. I had figured I'd work through my stash, catch up on pattern reviews, curl up with a book - I thought I'd be set during this isolation phase! But instead, all I've done is work (I'm one of the lucky ones that can work from home), and in my free time, analyze case data and read about COVID (I used to work in public health). And now I'm sewing masks for non-sewist friends and family.
Mask making, which I did for friends and family, while noble, can suck all the creative joy out of sewing. I got to the point where I just had enough and stopped. I will gladly make more for my loved ones as needed on an individual basis but you get to the point where you have to walk away. I did and hit the slump head on. I have spent the last three days intensely cleaning and organizing my studio which has given me great impetus to get sewing again. I will.
ReplyDeleteI have made a couple of masks, but yes, I agree, not the most interesting thing to be stitching. Once I figured out how to add a filter pocket that I liked, the challenge was over, and definitely not creative in any way!
DeleteEvery day is different, but I am finding that sitting on the couch and knitting is where I want to be, although I am managing to finish up some old sewing projects which feel great.
Very pretty frock.
