Silk Cherries

Does anyone remember this dress?  I took so much care in its construction, and then never got around to sharing the finished product.

The date stamp on these photos is from March, and I have been trying to get through these photos for what seems like an eternity.  Bad, bad, blogger.

But hey, the dress is very holiday appropriate with the red, right?!  So I guess it all worked out for the best.

And I don't know why it has taken so long.  I loved the dress so much, in fact, that I decided to make a second version with a circle skirt - so what if the bodice is incredibly recognizable, I needed another!

I wore these red pumps yesterday, which is was what reminded me that I was almost done weeding through the photos, and it was high time I documented the finished dress.  And here we are.

I am still incredibly proud that I managed to cut this entire dress out of the remaining scraps of yardage from my 2014 Cherries Jubilee Gown.

This is so much better than a pencil skirt!

And if an occasion presents itself, I may just have to wear it again before the holiday season is over . . .

  2. The cherries and neckline are nice, but you really featured the stems when you were sitting on the bench.

An aside: with Britex Fabrics in a new location, could you blog on their new digs? Sort of a "big city adventure", deftly coupling your guest blogger status and flair for fascinating - why it could all roll into one of your "Laura Mae in the wild" posts (your readers so enjoy when you traipse and tell).

No coquettish pretenses either, Laura Mae. We know you've been eager to see their new place, and besides, a meet up with another blogger or two for tea or lunch (and gossip), is something you could handily arrange (making a worthwhile day of it). Everything would fall into place and add a sewist's social dynamic to the story line (never-you-mind any of our guessing as to what you'd wear on such an excursion).

Isn't it time for you to get downtown, and really experience, and be part of, the city-scape?? Hmmmmmmmmmmmm????

  4. Very lovely. And also very provocative with that little peekaboo open triangle. Cherries are just fine anytime.

  6. Really beautiful piece, and (just as always) stunning sewing skills demonstrated here. It may be a cultural thing (I am French), but I wonder why you make your belts out of the same fabric as your main piece. If you made them in a full red, full black, or even gold, the belts would come out and enhance your waist more.
Thanx anyway for all you do. It brings excitment to my email box everytime I see your name pop!
