2016, Year in Review

I was going to skip a review of my 2016 sewing here on the blog - I am so far behind posting finished projects, and I have not been that motivated to remedy that situation, and things never really seem to be completed unless they are posted on the blog.  Silly, yes, but true.

But the exercise of reviewing a years worth of sewing and knitting projects really helps me to reflect on what worked, what was not quite as successful, and designs that I would love to make again.  It also reminds me of certain garments that have been a bit neglected!  So here we are.

Over the last couple of years I have tried to add more separates to my closet, and I have managed to do just that.

I really do not have any specific sewing resolutions, other than to keep creating things that make me happy.  If there is one thing that I would like to try this year, it would be to continue working from stashed fabrics and work through the massive collection of patterns that are taking over my apartment.  It is so easy to be seduced by new patterns, and shiny new bolts of fabric, but I am beginning to get overwhelmed by the amount of stuff living in the sewing room.  Who know what treasures are buried in some of those drawers full of fabric?  I intend to find out . . .

To that end, I have already pulled out some heavy wool yardage and started on a coat - hopefully I will finish before the weather has me dreaming of pastels and lightweight cottons and rayons!

"Jersey with a Soft Bow" / "Barcarole"

Happy sewing, everyone!

  1. Your sewing/knitting/creating hats to match/styling your hair/articulating the journey/creating tutorials (and placing them on your tutorial page)/revealing the gala gown/making quips and asides/doing this annual round-up make your blog a special place to visit.

It is here, and here alone, where one can ooh & ahh/editorialize/inquire/suggest/and just plain say "Thank you Laura Mae for sharing all of this with us!" through imagined dialogue of the kindest nature.

Looking forward to all you make from inspiration of years past, throughout 2017.

  4. It is wonderful to see your work in review. You have a unique style and reading about the creation of your garments is inspiring. Sewing from our fabric collections is a prevalent theme this year amongst bloggers. I will be taking the same journey. Can't wait to see what you find in those fabric drawers.

  7. My favorite is the awesome dress you draped and even designed the textile for. I also love the Alabama projects you have created with fabric you hand-dyed and added embroidery and beads to as well. I like that you hide the thread ends on the inside which would be my preference. I really would like to make an Alabama Chanin style garment but i have so many projects that i must finish or i won't have anything but stacks of craft boxes that reach the ceiling. Happy New Year!
