"Pennsylvania 6-5000"

I will be traveling to Warrington, PA (Bucks County) to help with some family stuff for a couple of weeks beginning next Tuesday.  I am not going to have much free time, but if there is a museum or event that is too fantastic to miss, I plan on sneaking away for a day.

If you are a local and know of any small but fabulous fabric stores or a vendor with an amazing stash of vintage buttons, etc. I would love to be apprised of the situation!

New York is a possibility, but my time will be extremely limited.  So are there any costume or textile exhibits that just cannot be missed?  Enquiring minds want to know!

  3. The size of that seat!!!

Modern airline seats could only accommodate an infant sitting in such a position with that much extra room.

    Safe travels Laura Mae.

Looking forward to reading of your adventures, discoveries, side-trips, and observations.

  4. I live in the suburbs of Phila. Warrington is about 45 minutes away from me.
" Jomar " is a discount fabric outlet with odd ball fabric. It isn't a pretty place but sometimes I find interesting yardage. They have a few stores in the Phila. area. I like the Whitaker Ave store. They have a website. Their motto is " We have it , you just have to find it"
" Gaffney's on Germantown Ave.in Phila., Again odd discounted fabric. They have a website too. Take a companion with you to both these places.
There is a very nice upscale sewing Quilting Sewing shop in Doylestown, Bucks County with a few fashion fabrics. Can't remember the name.
Steve's Sewing in King of Prussia is a very good all round machine accessories quilt shop with a few fashion fabrics. It is Pamala from Pamala's Pattern home base. They have a website too.
    Best Wishes,

    1. Me again. The nice little fabric store in Doylestown is called "Sew Smart " on Oakland Ave. It is a nice area around that block with interesting shops and if I remember this right, a vintage dress shop near by.

  5. As another person has said, Fabric Mart is a good almost all fashion fabrics retailer .They are a brick and mortar store and also an online seller and have a mail order website. All the shipping goes out of their store so you can get the fabrics on the website at the brick and mortar store. I llike it and like to go a couple times a year, but it is a distance from Warrington .

  7. You will not be too far from Philadelphia and it might be worth a trip to see the new exhibit at Drexel University's Westphal College of Media Arts and Design. It is entitled "immortal Beauty: Highlights from the Robert and Penny Fox Historic Costume Collection." It just opened on October 2 and runs through December 12. I haven't seen it yet, but I understand it is worth a trip. The focus is largely on international high style of the twentieth century. More information is available at www.drexel.edu/westphal/resources/FHCC. Also, knowing the fabric stores you have visited in NYC and, of course, Britex in SF, I can't think of a single fabric store in our area really worth the time to visit. (Emma One Sock in Dresher does not have a brick and mortar store - online only - but it is a great resource online.) Safe travels! You are coming to PA at a lovely time of year!
