Primary Colors

With the leftover fabric from this dress, I decided to make myself a blouse.  I just love getting two projects from one length of fabric!!

But which pattern?

I have yet to find my perfect blouse design.  At this point, I am not even sure what I am looking for.  But I did like Butterick 6217 as soon as I saw it.

So that seemed like a good place to start.

The top ended up a perfect match for my red linen skirt.  It was a great outfit for a graduation event on a very hot day.  Oh, how I love natural fibers!  Sitting on plastic chairs surrounded by synthetic turf . . . not so much.

The pattern was very easy to put together, although the sleeve has too much ease to fit into the armhole.  The design does not have a gathered cap according to the technical drawing, so I had a bit of a fight to get it stitched in properly.  But all's well that ends well.

Now if I could only find some solid colored fabric I really like, I just might have to make another . . .

  1. Both blouse and skirt are adorable! I am curious, when you made the blouse, did you use your standard size? I was a bit disappointed when I received this pattern and realized how much wearing ease is built into it. But the finished blouse looks actually great and not loose fitting at all!

    1. Thanks, Susanne!

I did use my standard size 12. The finished garment has quite a bit of ease (it is described as loose fitting). The bias cut ties make it possible to cinch in the bust area a bit. I probably should have stayed the neckline a bit, but other than that, the loose fit does not bother me. Although I will say I would never wear it without tucking it into a waistband!

  5. Very pretty, I've had my eye on this blouse, but is it designed for a b cup in which case I would need a fba, and that looks fiddly!

    1. I am not very familiar with FBA, but I don’t think this would be too difficult. It is really just a basic blouse with a princess dart and side seam dart in the bodice front. The tie is nothing more than a shaped bias piece that gets stitched into the side seam. That piece would probably have to be widened, but if that is what has you worried, I would say, go for it! I think the tie will actually work well for a fuller bust because it eliminates gaping at the buttonholes by taking the stress off the center seam.

  7. I always like to come by and see what you're up to, and I'm never disappointed. I love the ambitious projects you take on, as well as the simpler ones, too, which you execute with such excellence. Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing.

  8. This is a great blouse. Will be making a note of the pattern. You'd be able to pair this will all sorts of coloured skirts

  9. Splendidly pretty outfit! I adore the fullness of that skirt. It would swirl around until dizzy each time I put it on, if I had one like it. :)

    Wishing you a terrific weekend,
    ♥ Jessica
