My Alabama Chanin adventures have come to an end . . . at
least for the moment.
On its first outing, this combination received a couple of comments from strangers who liked my “suit.” That was not my original intent, but I think
that may just be what I have created.
I am actually a bit sad that there is no more work to be done on this project. Although, I did find a tiny section of stitching missing on one of the peplum seams as I was putting it on. Whoops! Not that anyone would have noticed, but I am glad I caught the "mistake" before I headed out for the day!
And since I have a bit of leftover fabric, I think I will
make myself another matching top to pair back with the skirt.
I have to admit that I do miss the hand work, so there will
probably be another Alabama Chanin project in my future - if not with this stenciled pattern, then another.

Wow! So amazing to see the final product. Love the technique a la Laura Mae, and of course the fit looks perfect as well!
ReplyDeleteThanks Meg! I had a few doubts along the way, but I am really pleased with this one!
DeleteUGH-MA-ZING!!!! Ugh cos I'm jealous! Seriously fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteSubject for your approval, with an auspicious alert, meet one Laura Mae.
DeleteAdroit enough to couch stitches, as well as stitch on a couch; her efforts dangle tantalizingly near the surface.
With good fortune and good taste, she's seemingly ensnared in a cosmic windfall. Her every creation lures in an ever growing crowd; the depth of her techniques go laden with accolades.
Admirers pay scant attention to those who find their envy, want, and jealousies snagged on the treble hook of Laura Mae's skills, talents, and charms. Bedraggled and aged-in-place, such onlookers feel an ephemeral undertow and realize only too late their best days now lie ahead only for a certain seamstress.
The barb of of hook, the point of a needle, or a pair of time hungry eyes - one in the same. On the floor of some unexplored trench in an ocean of theories, all three could converge in one creature.
Rest assured, said convergence, and creature, dwells smartly dressed in...the Twilight Zone.
Wow! that was an intensive project and it was worth all the time and effort. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing, what an effort and it looks stunning!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely amazing, what an effort and it looks stunning!
ReplyDeleteStunning is a bit of an understatement isn't it? It suits you so well, I wish I could see it in real life.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful! I'm sure you've inspired a bunch of people to try their hand at some hand stitching. I think I'll start a little smaller. I saw a border print in my Alabama Chanin book that I really want to try on a skirt. I just have to fit it in!
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking of a border of applique done along the hem of a dress myself!
DeleteFabulous outfit- so worth all your time! Did you use thin cotton jersey for the layers? Karen
ReplyDeleteThe jersey is not especially thin. It's from Dharma: http://www.dharmatrading.com/fabric/cotton/cotton-jersey-pfd-60-inch.html?lnav=fabric_cotton.html
DeleteYou look stunning and I love everything about this outfit. The colors are beautiful and the top and skirt are perfect. I hope Alabama Chanin is inspired by your beautiful creation. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteFantastic! How the heck do you care for a garment like that?
ReplyDeleteHand wash. Natalie Chanin says she throws her pieces in the washing machine, but I hand wash all my self-made pieces, so I plan on doing the same with this one.
DeleteLaura Mae, what an achievement! It's amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm so thrilled to see this finished and being modeled by you. It is absolutely stunningly gorgeous! Yes I did string those adjectives together but this suit is befitting of every bit of praise that it receives. Awesome job!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carolyn!!
DeleteA stunning outfit - and in my favourite colour as well!
ReplyDeleteI loved the color combo when I started, had my doubts as I was working on it, and in the end, love it! I guess it is one of those "trust your first instinct" things.
DeleteBeautiful!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous outfit! Great job! Love the colors and wish you luck on your next project!
ReplyDeleteYou look spectacular in it! I would just stare and stare at all that handwork if I ran into you!

I am always in awe of any superior handstitching skills (everyone's are better than mine, but this is not about me). Nevertheless, what makes this work is your pairing of fabric and pattern, as well as the colors used. Brava!
ReplyDeleteI can't really add anything the others haven't but you have truly created a work of art! Well done!
ReplyDeleteFabulous! I especially love the blue and green colors together. I've shied away from trying applique myself, but as others have said you are inspiring me to give it a try!
ReplyDeleteYou should absolutely give it a try - hand sewing is wonderful!
DeleteFabulous, what a beautiful outfit!
ReplyDeleteI can attest to how satisfying hand stiching is. I'm about to start my second AC.
This is nothing sort of spectacular! The final result is astounding and I am floored by your patience and attention to detail!
