Hand stitching two layers of cotton knit jersey together has become
my favorite creative winter activity. This means my knitting is not getting much attention, but I am having too much fun with all this hand sewing to stop now!
After realizing that my small embroidery scissors were not incredibly comfortable to use for all the cutting required to reveal the under-layer, I splurged on a pair of appliqué scissors. I have found my new best friend . . . I think they are going to get a lot of use.
Which leads me to the scariest step of this process . . . the cutting.
The process is getting easier as I work my way through each piece.
There is still a lot of work to do, but I am making progress!
Laura, it will be beautiful! The colors are beautiful. After seeing in your blog, I started a vest with the same reverse appliqué stencil. A lot of work but I love it. And you're right cutting is the scariest moment :)
ReplyDeleteI'm intrigued with the Alabama Chanin process and look forward to following the progress of your garment :)
ReplyDeleteIt appears as if you have been using this technique for years. Impressive all the way around, and we haven't seen the goods on you yet.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the pics. Looks like you are off & running. Last summer I made a stencil. Not too bad. Then came spraying the stencil onto the knit tee shirt. NOT GOOD....I sprayed too much paint that when I lifted the stencil the paint dripped all over the tee. I will now try stamping the paint...LIGHTLY.
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!! I'm happy to hear you're enjoying the process, though that's no big surprise :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the pics of your process...it is so interesting to watch this come together!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I'm impressed with your even hand stitches.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome!
ReplyDeleteThis is nothing short of amazing! You are doing a marvelous job and I can't wait to see it once it's all done!

Wow! I am just so excited to see how this turns out!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, Laura! I can really tell that the fabrics are hand dyed. I also have those scissors - they are great!
ReplyDeleteYou are obviously in your happy spot! I love my duckbills! I can get them sharpened, too: a double win for a easily reached for tool!
ReplyDeleteSo very lovely! Wonderful work, dear gal. I'm excited to see the finished piece.

Wow the stitching looks superb! It's fun to see you working in jersey as well!
ReplyDeleteOh it looks amazing, what is it going to become? I love hand stitching, it's the best!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea...but to make this go faster. I'd take KK2000 to temp sandwich fabrics together, then machine sew. Sew much faster...Could even do a leaf decorative stitch. Gosh my idea machine is running OT.
