My obsession with red continues. Years ago I was more drawn to burgundy, rose,
merlot, and maroon. These days, however, I
seem to gravitate more towards a true red.
This was certainly true of my latest Britex project. I am embarrassed to admit that its first outing was February 14th – that’s right, Valentine’s day. How utterly clichéd can you get, right?!
I get very cranky with holidays such as Valentine’s Day and do my best to avoid pink and red on the dreaded day. This year, however, a combination of
schedules and weather made it the only viable day for photos before my
deadline. So with a reluctant heart, I
joined the sea of red on Friday the 14th.
Putting all of that aside, I should talk about the fabric. The more I work with wool, the
more I love it. This scarlet red
deliciousness proved to be just as lovely as I hoped. It does fray a bit, but so do a lot of lovely
fabrics. And while some wool can be rather
itchy, this one did not rub me the wrong way.
I find that I often avoid solid colored fabrics. A print or texture can often disguise
a less than stellar quality fabric, but there really is nothing to hide behind with a
plain solid. So being spoiled with gorgeous pieces of wool from Britex may just help me get over my fear of
solids. This navy dress was worn a lot
this season, and I expect this new dress will become another favorite.

This is sooooo amazing! Thanks Laura for inspiring us!
ReplyDeleteThis is really perfection. The colour, the dress, the fabric, it all seems as if they had been made for each other.
ReplyDeleteYou look so very elegant and classy!
LOVE! This is such a pretty dress and it looks fantastic on you. If I remember correctly it's a contemporary pattern but there's something truly timeless about the design. Beautifully done -- and a great, knockout red!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Peter! I do have a habit of making contemporary pieces look old-fashioned. :) I suppose part of the reason I was drawn to the design is the fact that it really could look like something from the 50s, 60s, 80s, 90s, etc. Since "timeless" sounds so classy, I think I will use that description!!
DeleteI've just gone back to look at all of the blog posts about this dress. I swear, someday there will be a museum show of the amazing dresses you have made. The attention to detail is an inspiration to so many of us. This red dress is simply gorgeous. I'm sure you turned plenty of heads on 2/14!
ReplyDeleteThank you so very much! I find faults in everything I make, so I doubt they belong in a museum, but that is the kind of quality I strive for!!
DeleteAnd how fabulous would it be to get to see the insides of those pieces from Balenciaga, YSL, Charles James, McQueen, and all of the other masterpieces owned by museums?! That would be a dream come true . . .
Very well done. Very VERY lovely dress, you wear it well.
ReplyDeleteBeauteous! Looks fab on you!

Red is an incredibly lovely, captivating colour. I reach for it often myself, too, especially during the colder months, when its fiery warmth livens up winter's (frequently) lackluster landscape so majestically.
ReplyDeleteYou look gorgeous, honey - that cut and colour are so flattering on you!

ReplyDeletePrice of this dress was very good and dress was perfect. I purposely ordered a larger size and it was still a little small. But I take it as motivation to lose a few pounds.
