Cutting the Fabric

There is something really exciting about cutting into fabric.  Inevitably, something about a project will not turn out as expected, but at the beginning, everything is perfect.

This damask print is so oversized I was really worried about how much fabric was going to be wasted by trying to match the motifs.  It actually worked out quite well.

To help match everything up, I used a pencil to trace an outline of the design directly on the muslin.  (Having a complete muslin with a right and left side really helps with this!)

I was hoping to have enough leftover yardage to add a pair of cuffs to the design, and now I do!

[Britex has generously provided the fabric and sewing supplies for a dress I will be wearing to a formal event in October. I will be sharing some of the steps and construction techniques with you as I work on this project over the next couple of months.]
