As any project comes to a close, there are all of those
pesky finishing details that you think will only take a few minutes that end up
adding hours to the total time spent on a design.
Don’t get me wrong, I love hand sewing, but all of those
hook and eyes can drive me crazy. And
those shoulder pads or that belt that seems like they should only take an hour, or less, end up taking
three or four.
Inevitably, I would get towards the end of this project, and
would have to rush through things like hand hemming the drape. I love that part - and I do not want to
have to plow through it. So I am starting with some of those final steps, like this drape.
I did a little test with a scrap of fabric to see what machine
stitching might look like on the hems, but, surprise, surprise, I didn’t like
it. Shocking, I know!
[Britex has generously provided the fabric and sewing
supplies for a dress I will be wearing to a formal event in October. I will be sharing some of the steps and
construction techniques with you as I work on this project over the next couple
of months.]
I know I'm not the only one who loves seeing your attention to detail. Inspiring!
ReplyDeleteRest assured, you most certainly are not the only one.
DeleteThis is how you know you've matured in your craft when you take the time to do things for the absolute best finished product.
ReplyDeleteI often do the same thing - get some of that detail/"prep" work done at the beginning of a project. (That recently backfired on me when I got the cuffs done for a DvF style wrap dress, and then decided to shorten the sleeves, which meant that I had to make new cuffs, but, oh well.) I love seeing your work up close and all the details!
ReplyDeleteHa! Yes, there are some pitfalls, like stitching up seams that should have been left open till later in the game, etc. But for the most part, I have had good luck with it!
DeleteWhat an amazing amount of work! Beautifully done!!!
