Last Chance

Just a quick reminder that Google Reader is going to disappear very soon – July 1st, in fact.  Where the heck does the time go?!

The change from one to the other was very simple, and I managed to get that done back in April.  But I just forced myself start using Bloglovin’ a few weeks ago.  And surprisingly enough, I like it!  To be perfectly honest, it took a solid week before I was completely comfortable with the change, but I think I am going to end up liking it more than Google Reader.  Reading a blog in its original format is so much more interesting!

There are certainly other options out there, but if you would like to give Bloglovin’ a try, this is just a reminder that you can follow me here.

Do you have a new favorite RSS reader?

  1. Hi Laura, I have been pouring over the details in your blog. You have so many great useful tips and tricks. Thank you for sharing this will all of us. I was just wondering if you had a tutorial with how you put in a zipper using your silk organza method. I'm trying to wrap my head around the need to stablize the zipper but I think this might be because of the particular material used. I'm working my way into trying out rayon and all I've ever worked with is cotton. Thank you!

    1. Joanna,

I do not have a specific tutorial for the strips. But I do have a few pictures of the process: http://www.flickr.com/photos/45801735@N03/8096162629/in/photostream/lightbox/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/45801735@N03/8096169422/in/photostream/lightbox/

I tear strips a little over 1” wide, and stitch the strip down on the wrong side of the fabric just inside the seam allowance (stitching so the thread does not show on the right side of my garment). Once the strip is in place, I install the zipper, treating the fashion fabric and organza strip as a single piece.

Not all garments need the extra stabilization, but I especially like to use the technique on drapey rayons and lightweight fabrics that need a bit of added strength.

      Hope that helps!

  2. I have found a great replacement for iGoogle.com. It's called ighome.com which was created when Google made their announcement that they're closing my home page. I put all my rss feeds there and it's very nice.

What I'm working on this week are breast pads for my daughter in law who is nursing our new grand baby.

Then I'll begin planning a couple of vintage style dresses for my 2 oldest granddaughters for next Christmas. These will have the vintage slips and I'm still trying to decide if I'll put hoops in the skirts or not.

Then a new sundress for myself.

  3. For years I struggled to find a feed reader that I really hit it off with (many failed to make the grade for me), but then I started using Bloglovin' in early 2012 and have been thoroughly smitten ever since. It was the feed reader I'd always wanted (and even asked my programmer husband at one point - shortly before I found it - if it would be possible for him to make for me just like it), and has been the only one I've used for the past year and a half (very much including to follow your marvelous blog, dear Laura).
