It is so hot here at the moment and I have need of appropriate clothing. So...the first item I plan to sew is a quick and simple to make, loose flowing dress. New Look 6119. I plan to make the shorter version.

Hi laura mae, my next sewing project will be a reversible patchwork doona cover, it was actually my boyfriends idea so its also a new years resolution for us to finish togevs. it will be a lightweight cover done in vintage japanese cotton squares. i live in australia so in summer a cute lightweight cover is all thats needed. im dying to get to the fabric store.eeeeeek!

ReplyDeleteOtherwise I have no real plans, which is a bit of a chok, but I'm pretty sure I will have something in mind within a few days. Might be a shirt of some sort.. I have lots of sweaters after this christmas, but that will become a problem in March ;)
What a great give-away, I have thought making something with that pattern, but is always a bit reluctant to try out new patterns as I have a very bad experience with a local patternmaker.

ReplyDeleteMy first project is to tidy up the sewing room I'm afraid! I am spending today moving the furniture in there around and I'll be getting some more shelves for it this weekend. It is beyond necessary!!!
I would like to take part in the giveaway.
Aside from the tidying, I am in the process of making a self-drafted straight skirt for my Mum :) it was meant to be a fairly quick make but the as I worked with the fabric (very heavy tweed-ish wool cloth) I realised it needs lining, so this is going to take slightly longer.
After that, my real first project for 2013 is a dress with sleeves, in a lovely purple knit I picked up in Italy. I spent the Christmas holidays tracing patterns, since there is no machine there, and I raring to hit the shears! :)

ReplyDeleteI have four project competing for attention; a pair of EvaDress trousers, a skirt, a pair of Thurlow trousers, and a Renfrew top. The first to make it to the cutting table is not necessarily an indication that they will be first to the sewing machine. But before I start that I have to cut my hair.

My first dress will be a dark purple velveteen (but looks like velvet) dress from a Vogue Special Design pattern from the late '50s - scoop neck, full skirt, which looks amazingly like an Alexander McQueen dress. Meant to make it before New Years, but want to finish!

If I start sewing now I might actually have some clothes to wear when the temperature warms up (I have all fall/winter clothes for some reason)

ReplyDeleteOn my cutting board is a beautiful denim/bamboo that I am going use to make a long pants version of Collette's Iris shorts. I made a pair of shorts last week as a test run of the pattern and am always pleased that her patterns require few alterations, they're sized for real people.

ReplyDeleteMy first two projects for 2013 are to sew up a cropped gray corduroy blazer I cut out at Thanksgiving and the second is to (finally) wrap up a Vogue 1317 from the fall 2012 pattern line. A great pair of projects to kick off the year!

I would love to try this pattern. I don't know what my first sewing project will be because I am having an episode of vertigo that prevents my sewing right now--but I see a specialist next week and hope to be back to normal soon. What I'd like to sew is a lot of summer clothes and this skirt would be a great start!

ReplyDeleteMy first project to complete in 2013 is a dress from New Look A6000. It is a combo of the two longer sleeved dresses. As I am too short waisted for the side gathered look, I went for the strait dress with the longer sleeves and collar. I found beautiful crystal buttons for the cuffs and neck. The dress is a red velety looking light weight suede. I inter- lined it and am also adding a light weight tafeta like lining. I will send a picture when it is completed. I am just about finhed with putting on the sleeves, so that leaves me with the collar and lining. It is looking georgous.

ReplyDeleteThis year I have decided to tackle a basic trouser pattern that I can use as a sloper for future projects. Don't know why pants have always intimidated me, but this is the year I shall overcome!

What I really need to be sewing is a dust ruffle and duvet cover for a king sized bed and also a shower curtain, with all those buttonholes at the top :( what I really want to make is Vogue 7971 view C. I found the perfect fabric when I was reorganizing. It's a wool/silk blend with a stripe in shades of charcoal. Happy New Year Laura Mae and thanks for the great contest. ReplyDeleteMy first project for the new year will be New Look 6069 in a small print fabric which is primarily grey, purple and red. I've already made a muslin so its all go now. I love the flare of your Hollyburn skirt. Ilove Sewaholic patterns - I've already made the Cambie and I've no doubt the Hollyburn will be equally flattering.
