Gala Gown: The Unveiling

Here she is!

My “Ginger Rogers as Cinderella at the ball” gown.

The weather was perfect, the music was beautiful, and the party was fabulous!  And you really cannot ask for anything more than that.

But, on another note, I do have to admit that I am delighted to have completed this project - finally!

The process was incredible, but there sure is a sense of relief and accomplishment to be finished.  Not to mention the fact that I can start on a new project!

And you better believe that it is going to be something simple and basic that will not take a month to complete!

Dress & Capelet:  Made by me, Butterick 6408
Shoes:  BP
Earrings:  Kate Spade
Rings:  Grandmother’s engagement ring and Grandfather’s wedding ring

  3. Oh my God! You look so b-ee-u-tiful in that dress! (reminding me of the song I danced on last Saturday for my dance show, Willkommen bienvenue welcome from Liza Minelli's Cabaret movie, and the presentor saying "the girls are b-ee-u-tiful, even the orchestra is b-ee-u-tiful!").

You have this air of Little red riging hood, as if the photo had been recoloured in blue. And the caplet and hair accessories are such a lovely finishing touch. Thank you very much for the photos you posted regularly, it's all truly inspiring and I learn a lot from it!

    1. I love Cabaret!

And it is funny you should mention Little Red - because while I was going through the pics, the very same thought crossed my mind! I guess I can be he older sister, Little Blue.

    1. Thank you Peter! All the bloody fingertips were worth it in the end!

The handbag did not make it into many pictures, and I did not realize I had not posted any - whoops. Oh well, there is my excuse to post more pictures!

  7. You are AMAZING!! This dress is to die for! And I am not sure if I have words for the cape and hood!! 1940s hoods are simply the best!!

I really admire you for your continued sewing. Often once I get done with a project I'm so relieved that it's over because there has been a lot of screaming, throwing of items and other angry moments that I don't want to sew for another month!

    1. Thank you Janey! I bet you look fantastic in a hood with that gorgeous hair!

There are always frustrating moments with big projects. I often have trouble finishing something because I am so excited about a new idea and want to start on something new. Deadlines and events help a whole lot!

  15. What am I going to do? I have logged on every morning to check the next stage of your creation which is stunning. Your attention to detail has fascinated me! The end product is gorgeous, the hair piece and the corsages make stunning finishing touches. However, where is the bag you made? Thank you for sharing your journey.

  16. Absolutely beautiful. I never would have thought of doing the bodice and capelet in a different fabric to the skirt but it works so well.

  17. You and the dress are stunning and your photos really do justice to an incredible project. You absolutely made the right call with the capelet. I could not have imagined you could get any more glamorous than the dress, but with the hood and tiny cape you truly appear to have been summoned from another era.
I am so glad the event went well and that you had a good time! After all that work!
I would love to know where you keep these magnificent dresses and how you store them. They must take up a lot of space.
