New Vintage Reproductions from Butterick!

There are not one, not two, but three new vintage reproductions in the Butterick Winter/Holiday 2011 collection.  How very exciting!

So let’s take a look, shall we . . .

Butterick 5708

I am a bit unsure how the fit will work with this one when there are so many shoulder tie options, but I love the look.  Maybe some boning added along the side seams?  And maybe a bit of interfacing on the lower bodice pieces?

Butterick 5716

The swing jacket is super cute, but I have a couple of coats planned for this season and I must not let this distract me.

Butterick 5707

My favorite is this lovely shift.  How fabulous is the cutout and bow tie.  Love it!

My only gripe is that I would like to see more complex vintage styles reproduced.  When will Vogue bring back all of the Couturier designs?

I cannot wait until the next sale at JoAnn Fabrics.  And I will have to go through the stash to find the perfect fabric for 5707.

And, of course, there are quite a few new contemporary patterns for those of us not completely obsessed with the past.

  1. It's not an era that generally appeals to me, but that shift dress looks amazing. I like the slight cowl, but that bow and cut-out is stunning.

Then I looked at the version Butterick sewed up... what the?? Their neckline is higher and not nearly as flattering, the bow is huge and you can barely see the cut-out. It looks about a size too big for the model, too.

  2. @EmmaEmma,

I generally avoid looking at the mocked-up versions of these vintage reproductions for that very reason. They are often too big for the models, or the fabric is somehow wrong for the style. And I agree, the bow seems a bit oversized, but that is an easy fix.

Besides, no one really looks like those vintage fashion illustrations, except a supermodel who is 6’ tall with an 18” waist – not even Dovima looked that tall and lean!

  5. My favourite has to be also the 5707 with the cutout detail.

  6. Ooh, my favourite has to be 5708, I love the bow ties, they balance out the dress perfectly.

  7. I love the 5707! Though they made the sample dress in a horrible, odd looking print I can imagine this being a pretty dress. I've always wondered how those sleeves would look on me. Usually I prefer more fitted/tailored sleeves.
